7 CRISIS COMMUNICATION TIPS
EVERY ORGANIZATION SHOULD MASTER

#1 Respond Quickly

– – –

It’s crucial that you have proper channels of communication in times of emergencies.

With the world currently facing a major health crisis, organizations should practice the right procedures.

To help you make sure that your organization responds effectively during these challenging times, we will be featuring some helpful tips from an article titled, “7 Crisis Communication Tips Every Organization Should Master” by Northeastern University.

Our Director of Research is an alumnus of the university and has taken with him and imparted important practices such as these to guide everyone in the firm. We do our best to always follow these tips in how we communicate and keep everyone well-informed, both written and verbal.

This week’s crisis communication tip is to:

“Respond Quickly”

Rapid response is essential for crisis relief and management. Whatever the scenario may be, it’s important that you have systems in place that allow you to take immediate action during emergencies.

Thanks to the latest developments in technology, communication is now more effective and accessible. Having different communication platforms enables you to relay information much faster, reaching more people in a shorter time frame.

You could use messaging apps, email customer service platforms, email blasts, online press releases, social media posts, and many more.

During a crisis or emergency and depending on what the nature of your organization is, make sure you’re able to provide a response within the first few hours. This prevents both your customers and employees from jumping into conclusions and eliminates any feeling of uncertainty.

Responding too late could compromise the well-being and safety of others.

It could also cause panic.

When relaying any form of communication that addresses a crisis, always make sure to notify the right people as well. You’d want to avoid unnecessary panic at all costs.

You can also evaluate the most accessible platform that would reach your clients, customers, or employees the fastest. Your goal is to get them the response and information they need ASAP.

A good example is responding through your organization’s social media accounts. The importance of communicating through social media cannot be understated. Most people today turn to specific social media platforms to access news, current events, and other updates.

It’s simple. It’s immediate. It gets the job done.

To quote Melissa Agnes, social media crisis manager and CEO of the Crisis Ready Institute:

“When it comes to crisis communications, if you always focus on building a relationship with your customers, fans and followers, you will always find yourself communicating in the right direction.”

Speed is valuable and important during any type of crisis that’s why being able to relay information quickly is a must.

Effective crisis communication ensures that you have a rapid and comprehensive strategy in place, keeping customers, clients, and every member of your organization knowledgeable and aware of whatever situation.
