January 21, 2022

Miles Everson’s Business Builder Daily speaks to the heart of what great marketers, business leaders, and other professionals need to succeed in advertising, communications, managing their investments, career strategy, and more.

A Note from Miles Everson

As promised, I am giving you my own thoughts and insights each Friday with a topic of discussion or event that I find useful in my everyday business life and personal life. My hope is that my experiences and personal interests help you in your career and life as well.

This week in particular, I am recommending a book that will help you move your career goals and personal goals forward. For me, reading and staying up to date on the latest tips and studies on what it takes to develop yourself as an individual is highly important.

As a strong proponent of continued learning, I believe it is also important to implement the knowledge you take away from these works. This is why I am sharing with you this book that will help you prepare for new challenges and develop new habits.

Go all-in this year! As you give this book a shot, you’ll walk away with concrete advice on how to reach your goals and become your best self this 2022.

Mindfulness by Miles

As you enter 2022, you might be focusing on what you want the next chapter of your life to entail.

This includes reflecting on what you could be doing differently, what habits you should break, or what skills you need to enhance to make your new year’s resolutions a reality.

However, to truly “live your best life,” you first have to pinpoint the areas in your life that hinder you from reaching your full potential… and according to MBO Partners’ CEO, Miles Everson, he found this book helpful in identifying the “energy vampires” in his own life.

“How Full is Your Bucket?”

“How Full is Your Bucket?” is a motivational book written by New York Times’ and BusinessWeek’s bestselling authors, Tom Rath and Donald Clifton. Here, the authors tackle how you can be more optimistic and efficient in life through a “bucket filling” metaphor that improves as each day unfolds.

Rath and Clifton’s ability to ask vital questions, give numerous anecdotes, and explain decades of research in one book will compel you to reflect on how you choose to “fill your bucket” with people and experiences that will either prevent or support you from being the best version of yourself.

For Everson, reading the book gave him a greater understanding and awareness of how each interaction he had with others affected him. He began to notice the things and events that affected his overall productivity, health, and mindset not only for a day but also for a week or even a month.

This book also helped him break bad habits of excusing his and others’ behaviors that prevented him from reaching his full potential. The lessons he learned from this written work made him realize and swallow the hard truth of the negative impacts of certain behaviors and interactions he became accustomed to in his everyday life.

The moment Everson chose to actively change his behavior and fill his bucket with more positive and fulfilling interactions and experiences, he noticed he did not only become happier, but he also became more efficient and successful in his career.

Two of Everson’s major takeaways from this book?

  • Understanding the importance of being aware of where he invests his time and energy.
  • Taking the time to truly take care about the circumstances and interactions that affect his mood.

See how awesome Rath and Clifton’s book is? If it helped Everson break his bad habits and be more mindful of the things that truly matter in his life, then this book can also do wonders for you!

Written based on the metaphor of a dipper and a bucket and grounded in 50 years of research, “How Full is Your Bucket?” will show you how you can increase the positive moments in both your work and personal life.

We encourage you to pick up a copy of this book!

If you truly want to identify the areas in your life that you need to change or improve this year, “How Full is Your Bucket?” will teach you the importance of filling yourself with positive experiences and interactions that will lead to lasting changes this 2022 and in the next years to come.
