Mindfulness by Miles

We all know the feeling of nervousness and anxiety when faced with a high-pressure situation.

Examples:

  • Job interviews
  • Group presentations
  • Public speaking engagements

… and more.

When we’re nervous, these situations can leave us feeling small and powerless. We need something to help us be at our best, both physically and mentally.

This is where POWER POSING comes in. By adopting an expansive and open posture, we signal our brain that we are in a state of power and dominance, leading to increased levels of testosterone, reduced levels of cortisol, and better performance in our given task.

Power posing has been making waves in the world of self-help and personal development. Introduced by social psychologist Amy Cuddy, this concept is based on the idea that a person’s body language and posture can have a profound impact on his or her psychology.

It’s a simple yet powerful concept that can help individuals overcome feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety, and transform their lives for the better!

Miles Everson, CEO of MBO Partners, personally finds the topic of power posing interesting. He says he has always been looking for tips to help improve his overall well-being, and he didn’t realize something as simple as posture impacts his mood and productivity throughout the day.

That’s why when he first encountered this concept, he became more mindful of how he carries or projects himself. He thinks power posing not only affects him internally but also influences the mood of those around him.

The essence of this technique lies in its ability to harness the connection between the body and the mind. The body sends signals to the brain, and these signals can have a profound impact on one’s emotions and behavior.

It’s also important to take note that power posing is not just applicable to high-pressure situations. In fact, it’s also applicable even to the most mundane and routinary things in life!

So, how can you find your “power pose?”

There are different kinds of power poses. These include:

  • The Salutation (arms outstretched and head tilted towards the sun)
  • The Victory (raising the hands above the head in celebration)
  • The Loomer (placing the hands on a desk or back of a chair while slightly leaning forward)
  • The Vanna White (gesturing towards something with arms wide open)
  • The Wonder Woman (standing with feet apart, hands on hips, and chin tilted upward)

Once you identify the appropriate power pose for a specific situation, maintain that posture for 1 to 2 minutes. This will help you change your mindset and approach your current task better.

Here are some of the benefits of adopting an open posture:

  • It boosts your overall sense of self-esteem and confidence. By training your brain to associate power poses with feelings of power and dominance, you will develop a more positive self-image and improved self-esteem. Imagine being able to walk into any situation with your head held high, feeling confident and in control!
  • It’s easily accessible and cost-effective. Unlike traditional forms of therapy or self-help methods, power posing does not require any special equipment or training. It’s a simple yet powerful tool that you can use to take control of your emotions, thoughts, and behavior, and lead a more confident and empowered life.

According to Everson, power posing is indeed a game-changer! It’s a concept that can be incorporated into your daily routine, and its benefits are numerous.

So, next time you’re feeling nervous or unsure, remember to stand tall, fix your posture, and embrace the positive effects of power posing! Everson states in terms of taking control of your life and achieving your goals, good body language can go a long way.

We hope you’re encouraged to try this technique too!

It’s time to change the way you think about your body. Whether you’re facing a difficult task or just looking to improve your overall well-being, this tip will help you lead a more confident and stress-free life.
