Hans Nathan Kung currently works at Macquarie Offshore Services Ltd. as a Financial Crime Analyst under its Risk Management Group. Macquarie is a global financial services group that operates in 31 markets, including the Philippines.

According to Hans, his main task as a Financial Crime Analyst is to detect financial crimes and other finance-related activities that involve Macquarie and its bank accounts; specifically pertaining to occurrences of money laundering, bribery and corruption, and terrorist financing.

Hans used to be an intern at Valens. He mentioned that most of his tasks as an intern revolved around pulling data from financial statements for the company’s database as well as verifying and checking the data he found. His tasks also include conducting stock market research to further expound on market gainers and losers.

One of the opportunities that he would like to focus on in his current role is being able to address some of the gaps in Macquarie’s financial monitoring and design new rules for automated monitoring that would pick up interesting activity.

Hans strongly believes that it is important to remember that improvement is continuous. Doing so helps one practice seeking out areas for improvement in any given task. This type of mindset is what drives him to do better in his work.

Outside of work, Hans usually spends his time writing, particularly on the fantasy genre. Recently, he has written content that includes 170,000 words, enough to make a book out of it. He still continues to add to it and improve it in the hopes of improving his writing skills.
