Ivanah Tomo currently works at the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL), a legal service firm in Quezon City, Philippines, as a Legal Intern. She is also studying Law at San Beda University.

As a Legal Intern at NUPL, Ivanah’s job is to assist lawyers who are dealing with various Human Rights lawsuits by preparing the appropriate research work on those cases.

Ivanah is a former Research Associate under the Consulting team at Valens Research. Her role included doing various research work based on clients’ requests, creating dossiers for certain individuals or companies, and doing other weekly tasks requested by Transcend10 Community Mayors.

Going into law school made Ivanah see the need for improvement in the Philippines’ legal system. Since she is also interning at NUPL, she became more aware about the human rights situation in the country. These factors made her want to spend her time providing legal services to those in need.

For Ivanah, juggling law school and work is a success, challenge, and responsibility. The experience is humbling for her because she learned how to manage her time wisely and expand her perspective in terms of building her career.

Outside of law school and being a Legal Intern, Ivanah is a happy and thoughtful person. She likes to repeat the same jokes to her friends to tease them and she also enjoys giving customized gifts to her loved ones. She usually spends hours scrolling through Instagram to look for cute and unique gifts.
